Batik is a centuries old artistry performed by highly skilled craftsman in Bali and Java. This meticulous process involves the technique of manual wax-resist dying by printing the resist with a copper stamp. The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colors are desired.
This intricate process, done entirely by hand, creates color and printing subtleties between fabrics and products. These variations breathe life into our collection, making each en repose piece truly one-of-kind.
Batik has been designated by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Read more here.
